Here is the text of my speech at the memorial this morning.
It 'all too obvious, on one occasion as the Liberation Day, for those who dress the tricolor flag of the Mayor of this city, unwind at the memory of the heroism of those who gave their lives for freedom and the courage to make decisions that the time imposed, to decide which side they dramatically.
E 'but a rhetoric that does not belong to my way of understanding the role that citizens Bra I have designated. That today is not an anniversary like the others. Being here today is an opportunity to witness a practice civic engagement, which has as its point of arrival and respect for and trust in institutions, but a long way, giving rise to the fight against fascism in Italy, which meant a clear rejection of the dictatorship , oppression, slavery.
I am happy that you are stranded in the Parliament's intention to equate those who fought for the liberation of the Nazi invaders of our country, with those ( Republicans) that the Nazi invaders, while he was exterminating millions of Jews-are supported in every way. The absurd bill for this equation must be deleted.
One thing is respect for the dead, it should be noted that in respect of all in a spirit of reconciliation. Another thing to say that in the end, everyone wanted the good of the country and so there is no difference. There is indeed!
This week has been a guest in our house building contractor Masciari Pino Calabrese, one of the most famous anti-mafia of resistance in our country. Masciari wanted to draw a picture of the situation certainly not edifying who has lived and lives, for trying freedom in his land, trying to free from the constraints of organized crime. Well, for men and women like him, April 25 is yet to come.
Here are the reasons why April 25th is a date that we remember today, but must enter into our schedule tomorrow, tomorrow and every day of the year.
What is behind it is a thirst for freedom, autonomy, and humanity that people need decent people like the oxygen we breathe. A thirst that can not be appeased by promises of us who are involved in politics or the false myths that our age there propina.
It is in fact an ancient need, I would say the primary for human beings, a requirement that men and women of this land know before you even know which flag, country, ethnic group or country they belong.
Being free means in fact have a will that allows you to make choices, to plan strategies, to take roads or paths. In a word, to fully live their lives.
This is because, as I said April 25 it will be today but also tomorrow and in the days ahead. Each of us has a duty to engage younger people to leave a better world and can and must do so immediately, from as small as the big things.
On April 25, continues to have a meaning only if we, the values of liberation and freedom, supported the concepts equal opportunities, environmental protection and solidarity for all human beings, respect for rules, large and small. All these ideas are those that hold together a community like ours.
Often during these times, we tend to close the assistance of commemoration with a message of hope, addressing perhaps the youngest in the hope that they are the successors of experiences and values that we want to send.
Today I have a bit more difficult to send this message of hope: I intend to propose, together with hope rather than a message of commitment. We can all do, every day, because the ideas that a community must share, whose I just said, instead of weakening may be increasingly strengthened.
This is not a selfish way of looking at our presence in society, while being aware of an increasingly selfish. For this reason we can not hide behind the veil of indifference, because otherwise we will have helped to produce an unequal and unjust society.
It 's a pity that those who gave their lives sixty years ago for a better Italy, could never forgive.
